Methodology
Every Clear Money calculator shows the math behind its result. This page indexes those methodology notes so you can compare and audit how each tool reaches its answer.
We optimize for two things: plain-English explanation and conservative assumptions. When estimates can vary widely (taxes, rates, growth) we bias toward the worst-case end of a reasonable range so users are not surprised in the wrong direction.
For each tool you can expand the How this is calculated drawer at the bottom of the result panel. The drawer lists:
- The formulas used.
- The assumptions and rate tables (with effective dates).
- The known limits: situations where this tool will not give you a useful answer.
- Recommended next step if your situation falls outside those limits.
